Unshackled Adventures parked up in Mildura at Burronga Caravan Park for a few days while the car went in for a service. With the weather turning and rain setting in for most of our stay, it ended up being the perfect chance to catch up on a bit of life admin—laundry, cleaning the van, and resetting before the next leg of the journey.

The town sits at the crossroads of three major highways – the Kidman Way linking Melbourne to Brisbane, the Barrier Highway connecting Sydney to Adelaide via Broken Hill, and the Wool Track linking the Sunraysia region to Queensland.

After soaking up the beauty of the Blue Mountains, Unshackled Adventures was craving a slower pace and some classic country scenery. We headed inland to Forbes in the Central West of NSW and set up camp at the free, RV-friendly Wheogo Park on Lake Forbes.

The picture-perfect village of Carcoar sits quietly in a sheltered valley beside the gently winding Belubula River. A true historic gem, it is the third-oldest settlement west of the Blue Mountains, and with its rolling hills and fertile surrounds, it’s easy to understand why early settlers were drawn here. Wandering its streets feels like stepping back in time — a township that history has carefully preserved rather than left behind.
