Water Pump Bypass System
Washing day is an inevitable part of life but when camping off grid it can take a little more ingenuity. We have three tanks plus one dedicated drinking water tank in “Lottie” our caravan. This is a total of 320 litres on board, and we can also carry 65 litres in our car water bladder. However, a few weeks off grid and this is easily used up with daily showers, dishes etc. To conserve our water, we are able to pump water directly from a creek or other water source. By using our water bypass, we avoid contamination of our fresh tank water and enable us to run loads of washing, have sneaky endless showers and even wash our rigs if we so desire. We use a Kickass 12-volt portable water pump that delivers 12 litres per minute—more than enough to provide good water pressure throughout the van. Inside the van we have a compact 3 kg washing machine. It might sound small, but running a few loads, every second day easily keeps up with the amount of washing we generate each week.
